What drives guitarists to pick up the guitar is that they want to learn to play their favorite songs. Most of the songs are quite challenging but fortunately there are some easy ones too. Because most guitarists start with rock or metal, I decided to list five easy metal songs that anyone can quickly learn to play. These five songs are my favorite metal songs and I hope you will like them too.
Song 1. Black Sabbath – Black Sabbath
This is the king of all metal songs. It is the song that gave birth to the metal genre in my opinion. The song is quite dark and has a creepy mood to it. It was one of the first songs I learned on the guitar because it is quite easy to play. There are only a couple of riffs to learn and they are not that hard to play. The song is quite old. It was released in 1970 on the album which is also called Black Sabbath.
Song 2. For Whom The Bell Tolls – Metallica
One of Metallica’s biggest hits. It has very simple riffs and therefore it is very easy to learn. Many of my students who are beginners learned this song as one of their first. It also has a dark mood to it because the lyrics were inspired by Ernest Hemingway’s novel of the same name. The track was released on the Ride the Lightning album in 1984.
Song 3. Breaking The Law – Judas Priest
The most famous Judas Priest song. The riff is quite simple as well as the rhythm. The genre of the song is classic New Wave of British Heavy Metal. Rob Halford really shines on this one. The song is from the British Steel album which was released in 1980.
Song 4. Holy Diver – Dio
This song has one of the most recognized riffs in history of metal. All parts are quite simple so it will not take you a long time to learn it. Dio has many more easy songs that you can check out but this is the song I recommend you start with. It is from an album of the same name as the track and it was released in 1983.
Song 5. Symphony of Destruction – Megadeth
The last but not least is probably Megadeth’s biggest hit, Symphony of Destruction. This song also has simple riffs that any beginner can learn with a little practice. The song is from their Countdown to Extinction album which was released in 1992.
Check out other songs from these artists because they have more easy songs for you to practice. Remember to learn full songs and not just a couple of riffs from each song, if you want to progress to the next level. If some parts are challenging for you, slow them down and practice until you can play them.
